LUNGS OF REPERCUSSIONS
Generally the idea is that I will make an installation, a sound 'machine' that will incorporate real sound from percussion instruments or pre-programmed sounds created by these instruments and by using technologies; like internet, sound gadgets ~ contact mike, microphoneor possibly touch screen web-based program, or sound device...to bring sound & music composed from percussion/ music instruments that are used around the world to create a central access for cultural exchange, using sound as the based medium...the location will be in Oxford St. which is a very busy high traffic street where many tourists and street buskers roamed the area, there are many souvenir shops, restaurants, shopping arcades, moneychangers, pubs and cafes around generally. I've got a good video taken on some cultural and domestic activities happening during both day and night time, and have captured some instrumental & environmental sound in the area as well. Basically, I want to collect sounds pieces both composed by ‘musician’ from various countries [methods of instrumentalism] which can improvised and reflect strongly on the cultural influences behind the compositions created by worldly ‘musicians’and by recording ‘constructed’ sound from public spaces in Oxford St. [methods of environmentalism]. I need lots of compositions, eventually the consolidated compositions will then be ‘multipled’ & layered in my ‘machine’ installation where public can listen, act & response to the sound piece instantly and may improvise on their own in that instant, spontaneously based on a situational manner. My idea is to pursue an cultural exchange which can be conceived & conveyed in a worldly manner, as well as to record a ‘material’ presence; here the presence of humans & their bodily touch are the generator; the source for generating ‘live’ actions which trigger all senses to be a ‘reactive machine’ responding to the temporality of moments they can hardly ‘capture’.
